Chair Yoga
Angelena has taught Chair Yoga for the past 10 years, as a consultant to the Massachusetts Housing and Finance Agency, through their Tenant Assistance Programs since 1997. In addition she offers her unique Chair Yoga program, either 60 or 90 minutes long, through community adult education , in churches, corporations, in residential settings and privately.
All the many benefits of Yoga may be achieved while sitting in a chair or using the chair for balance while standing. In the 90 minute classes, the use of stretch bands are added for strengthening and deeper stretching.
Anyone of any age, (and particularly Seniors) or size, shape or fitness level can participate in the classes. Because there is no need to get up and down off of the floor, they are appreciated by seniors as well as those recovering from an illness or surgery or with a chronic condition and therefore may have limited endurance or mobility.
Learning and practicing Chair Yoga, sometimes called Office Yoga, is also helpful for those who sit at a desk, working long hours, and need an efficient and effective way to stretch out every muscle and joint. Chair Yoga is a great way to release the stress held in the body and mind, and it may be done without changing into special clothing.
To make this special program more accessible to all, Angelena has produced a 75 minute Chair Yoga DVD, Angelena’s Yoga, Using a Chair” which is divided into seven sections so that the entire program or just a small segment of it may be practiced at one time. The DVD can be ordered here.
